I would certainly agree with the Vista report.  I have worked on restoring etc a couple of friends Vista machines.  I recently installed the RC of W7 on an older machine I kind of use for testing software etc.  It is a 1.8 P4 with 1.2 GB RAM and an 80 GB SATA HD.  Very small graphics card.  It is extremely slow.  It is obvious to me that some fairly new gear is going to be required to really get all you want from W7.  What I do not like about Vista and W7 is the major changes to GUI.  There attempt to dumb down the GUI is annoying as H___ to me.

I am running the Pre-Release version of Windows 7 and it is excellent. No problems anywhere. It is much less bloated then Vista, is faster and I like it a lot. I think that if you buy a new machine now and it comes with Vista installed, you can switch for free to Windows 7 in October. I would ask.
