Subject: the bottom-feeder      From: RR

Ouch...it's getting ugly around here.

Wow. You post partisan, rightwing propaganda, attacking the President, ACORN, SEIU, PETA, GLAAD, NOW, ACLU, CBS, NBC, ABC, The New York Times, and Planned Parenthood. - And then call me the bottom feeder!

I can't see where anything productive can come from this ridiculous bantering back and forth about left-wing vs. right-wing politics. I don't know anyone here fully, and they certainly don't know me. Do we ever? And honestly, I don't give a rat's ass if Nancy Pelosi is Maxx's secret mistress, whether Sarah Palin tucks him in at night, or even if he enjoys chanting Kumbaya while perched atop a kumquat tree.

Look again at what I wrote. It's not just that Maxx is obsessed with Democrat politics. It's that he offers very little else!!

Maxx has said on many occasions that he frequents several different political forums. And while I don't pretend to understand him, or his motives, I do know the "type" of person who does this for entertainment. The internet is littered with millions of bitter, self-centered people (right and left), all making comments like the type he offers. Every news site, every blog, every forum, is full of pseudo-experts who claim to have all the answers. It wouldn't necessarily be so bad, but they always seem to screw around with syntax, and never come up with solutions. As I said elsewhere, this "divide" is what keeps the corporate government machine working against all of us.

Do you know how many other websites I talk about politics on? ...Zero.

For too long now, several people here have been under the misguided assumption that if I disagree with someone's admitted Democrat views, that I must be on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. That's just not the case, because being a conservative libertarian is almost a paradox unto itself. Having been an "independent" all my life, there's no way someone is able to define me so easily. Yes, as many of you know, I spoke against some of the really, really dumb attacks on George Bush. But, before my time on this forum, I was just as contentious against the never-ending assaults on Bill Clinton. There are certain things happening now, that if someone brings them up, I will even defend about President Obama (they are few though). Always, my goal in politics has been to see who's really pulling the "puppet strings," and trying not to focus on the "stage show." For years, Maxx has been calling me "republican," "right-wing," and a "rushie-poo." He's done it enough that I don't even bother defending against it. Well, I've never been fond of the Republicans -- I just happen to detest the Democrats more. I've never attended one of the Republican's caucuses, never given them a single dime, and refuse to even vote in my state's primaries because you have to choose (R) or (D) in order to do so. And in all these years, I have never listened to Rush Limbaugh, not even once. I admit however, I do like Glenn Beck -- at least when he's not trying to be a lovable clown.

Why do I imply that Maxx is a political bottom-feeder? And think that he must enjoy conflict?

This thread is a perfect example. Although the topic is about political procedure (the Obama Chart highlights), it's not specifically partisan. It's about Obama sidestepping Congress, and is fairly simple and self-explanatory. I merely thought it was good information about what's happening. But Maxx didn't touch on that subject -- instead he choose a certain "part" as his only focus, made it divisive, and expected me to keep arguing on the terms that he set -- even having the temerity to accuse me of not "sticking to the topic at hand." And, in a really lame attempt to "prove" I'm quoting sources that he doesn't agree with, he even went so far as to find some random, unrelated blog as evidence. This is the kind of stuff I see all over the internet. Screw that!! ...I'm not playing this game.

Let me put it simply:

NONAGS.COM IS A SOFTWARE WEBSITE!!

I'm nobody special here, just a member like everyone else. I'm sure everyone agrees; all are welcome, and no voice carries more weight than another. But I come here because I really enjoy testing software -- I'm pretty darn good at it too -- and I like helping other people with the little bit of knowledge that I have.

ON THIS FORUM, WE SHOULD BE HELPING OTHERS WITH SOFTWARE.

Everybody pays their dues here, either through Google ads (free users) or through membership fees, which entitles all of us to equal access. Everybody has their own reasons, and specific mannerisms on a public site. Some people choose to only look around, read a little bit, and never post anything. That's fine, and I think we all understand why. Some people join in the discussion rarely, or maybe just when they need specific help. And that's fine too.

If however, someone posts all the time, but never about software, doesn't that make anyone curious why they're here?

There's a trend I've noticed with almost all of the people who consider themselves to be "nonaggers" or "old-timers". All of them -- and we know who they are -- have at one time or another (and usually, all the time) offered software help and advice to other users.

There's one BIG exception though ...Maxx! And, even if I don't have any say-so, I can't help but wonder why someone with hundreds upon hundreds of posts (nearly 1,000) has NEVER helped someone with a software question? Just out of curiousity, I took a deeper look. In the last 5-1/2 years, I was remembering correctly ...zero, Zip, ZILCH.

The closest thing he ever gave to software advice was just before this past Christmas, telling another user, "They are close enough in features and size to be no real difference." when she was trying to decide between a Kindle versus the Nook as eBook readers. Maybe that counts as ONCE in 5-1/2 years? ...maybe?

Six months ago, he did mention that, "IE8 is the crashing-ist piece of sh*t every allowed to download on his machine," and that "he was now running Foxfire." I remember thinking, "Yeah, sure buddy. Way to blend in. It's about time you tried 'Foxfire' (known to the rest of the freeware world, from age 9 to 90, as Firefox.)"

Looking at the old forum, back to December of 2004?

Out of 1,550 posts in Windows Software? ...zilch, zip, zero help from Maxx.

Out of 663 posts in the other help categores? ...zilch, zip, zero help from Maxx.

I realize it may be sort of mean to point this out -- and someone will probably take offense at my doing so. But I'm thoroughly getting fed up with someone who doesn't contribute to the software community being such a jerk about politics! If you're one of Maxx's friends, I'm not saying he shouldn't be here, or that I've been blameless in the conflict between us. But maybe you can answer, "What is he doing on a software forum?"

Oh yeah -- out of those same 1,550 posts in Windows Software? ...you'll see that I tried to help 223 times. Out of the 663 posts in the other help categores? ...once again, at least I tried to help, 68 times.

Even though I will freely talk about subjects other than software -- as we all should be able to do -- I think my record of providing assistance speaks for itself.
