The answer to your questions are:
There is a download plugin - Download Status Bar
I have no trouble downloading any type of files from other sources
I don't know about IE as I don't like it and don't use it
No one else uses this computer bar myself- it's password protected
Also I run Avast AV, Comodo Security Suite, Threatfire, Malewarebytes Anti-Malware all kept going by Belkin UPS.

Are you able to download exe and zip files from other sources?
Do you have the same problem when using IE?
