Thanks for clarifying Mike. Like I said originally, I saw that e-mail mostly as humor (e.g. twisted irony), and never gave it much more thought. Seems kind of sad in a way that our best resource for researching the president is Snopes.com, huh?

Actually, I've never given a lot of credence to the "birther" theories -- though something is definitely "rotten in Washington" (about Obama's past records). Even if somebody could prove he was ineligible, can anyone really see the duly elected president getting impeached at this point in time?

From what I can gather about his birth, I can't say I blame him for wanting to bury his childhood records. Apparently, his mama was a slut -- unmarried -- and got knocked up by a classmate from Kenya. A "shotgun wedding" after the fact, and just as quickly divorced, doesn't quite fit in with the fairytale narrative the "propaganda machine" wants to spin.

I wonder mostly about his adult associations -- that's what is important -- and can't help but question why his campaign spent nearly two million dollars to bury his legal work, college records, etc. (mostly after the election). None of us truly know very much about the man's career ideology. Even his Illinois Senate records are lost (yeah, right) and he spent a great deal of his time just voting "present." And from his actions these past two years, it's becoming obvious that he's either the most unhinged president ever, or he's intentionally trying to cripple the United States.

If someone thinks he's intelligent, I'd sure like to see some evidence.

The Only Thing Weirder Than The Birthers....

The only thing weirder than the Birthers are the anti-Birthers, who blame the Birthers for being conspiracy theorists yet actively feed the conspiracy by refusing to call for President Obama to release his birth certificate.

The state official in Hawaii who manages such things has reiterated that there is indeed an original birth certificate on file which would confirm President Obama's having been born in Hawaii and that she has seen it, but state law won't allow her to release it unless the president authorizes it.

So what's the problem here? Release the original and let's be done with this madness.

I realize there are some faith-based Obama supporters who believe without seeing, but the rest of us in the reality-based world are starting to get that strange feeling we got when Mark Sanford tried to convince us that he was away from his family on Father's Day, hiking the Appalachian trail in order to clear his head and write a book.

During the last campaign, John McCain faced similar questions and promptly responded by releasing his original birth certificate. That's how normal people with nothing to hide handle these things.

Most American's aren't Birthers or anti-Birthers, but we are beginning to wonder why the president doesn't put this one to rest once and for all. Every day he allows this circus to continue is another day that he behaves less like the President of the United States facing weird accusations from fringe groups and more like a strange politician flying to Argentina to visit his soul-mate while pretending to be hiking the Appalachians.

Yep, politics is a strange game.

    Barack Obama the Birther

Barack Obama accusing the Chamber of Commerce of laundering foreign money and putting it into the election this year is as crazy as the Birthers demanding to see his birth certificate having convinced themselves Obama is a foreign born manchurian candidate.

I largely agree with Glenn Reynolds on this. Obama is raising the specter of foreign influence in the election so his base views the 2010 election as stolen from them, not that their issues and agenda were rejected.

It is much easier for people to believe in a conspiracy of malice against them than to accept that they and their agenda have been rejected by the American people.

It makes the former no less nutty and the latter no less true.
