Here in Virginia, if the electric payment hits the office even one day late, and it occurs more than 3 times in one year, you are required to post a bond (prepay) the amount of one months bill or $300, whichever is the greater -same with telephone service. if after posting the bond you are 30 days late, they can disconnect your service, which requires a 90 dollar reconnect fee from the electric company and a 75 dollar fee from the phone company.

To have cable connected to your house from a pole across the street is $3000, for electric lines it is $3000 to $7000 - for 100 to 300 feet of overhead cable.

The telephone companies just got a bill passed through the General Assembly that states if you have acess to an alternative service, such as wireless, they do not have to run a landline to your house.

We are a VERY business friendly state, not so much working people friendly, but very attuned to business people's wishes.

I calculated, using the inflation calculater that my salary after 33 years with the state, reaching a level of responsibilty where I manage contracts and construction projects worth millions of dollars, that I am, adjusted for inflation, making essentially the same thing I was making on the diary farm, doing manual labor.

Ten years ago, at the local restaraunt, a 12 oz ribeye dinner was $6.75 today, it is $16.98 -and only ten ounces.

Inflation -real inflation, for food and fuel IS rampant, and growing worse. If I didn't grow much of what I eat in the summer, including chicken and pork, and can, freeze, salt and smoke what I can for supplimenting my winter diet, I'd be in a real bind.

My cigars went from 79 cents a pack in 2000 to $7.99 this year. I nw nurse the pack trough a week to ten days.

Many people are far worse off, and are having a hard time of it. I know at least three families with no electricity just in my immediate neighborhood.

But the government tells us there is little or no inflation.
