While the bird quote is close, it ignores some subtle differences.
As hook once said, one side gives me less of what I don't want.
I don't want someone telling me I am so different, that I can not have the same rights, as "normal people", such as choosing who I will marry, or having there be legal discrimination aimed at me. No, I am not gay -nor am I black, an "illegal immigrant or female, but if one group can be discriminated against, sanctioned by law, it opens the door for everyone to be discriminated against.
It offends me to be told that I am lazy if I am unemployed, that wealth make right, that even though any wars fought will be fought by the people in my socio-economic group we should pay the same tax rate as those folks who's economic interests we will be defending.
It bothers me to be informed that Labor Unions are evil, should be dismantled yet unions comprised of businesses such as corporations and chambers of commerce are "people" with the same rights as a "person".
I don't see the majority of Democrats pushing this agenda.
I see the political parties as a choice between bad and worse, with one group attempting to curtail civil rights, creating laws that diminish the opportunities of those who work for a living while abrogating their responsibility towards all the people in America for the sake of one particular group.
A Bird of prey has two main weapons, the talons, and the beak. I think I would rather be caught in the talons, with a chace to fight the beak, than be trussed up or sedated and fed directly into the maw. Every law passed in the time frame 2000 to 2008 took power and choices from me, and enhanced the power of those who would rule over me.
Not a very edifying situation at all.
As I said before, the last three decades have made me feel like I have stumbled into the twilight zone, somewhere perhaps in the outer limits.
