Subject: What a silly analogy.      From: guyfalkes

Actually, if we want do know the real difference between redistributing income and GPA, it's that GPA can't be used as a political weapon by the left to get votes for themselves. These students would've been totally agreeable to this if they were ignorant jerks, with no education whatsoever, dictating this policy to the people actually going to school and working hard to earn the GPA they have.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What a silly analogy.

A GPA is earned on a level playing field. The grades earned are not credited with gimmes from Grandpa's wealth, or one's parent's wealth, there is no inherieted GPA, no huge bonuses, no seed money. You earn what you get -what your family did before has no bearing on what you do now.

Wealth on the otherhand can be inherited -just like poverty. Much of the wealth of today can be traced back not to hard work, but to family fortunes that were often amassed in semilegal, or even illegal methods.

There is no level playing field in life, but there is this when it comes to taxes - a large measure of today's taxes are spent on the military, much of which is manned with middle and lower middleclass kids. They die for what purpose? To protect the interests of the nation, and in this case the interests of the nation often turn out to be the economic interests of the wealthy.

It is akin to owning an insurance policy on a car- should the man who owns a Porsche pay the same rate as the man who drives a VW?

If the nation falls, the wealthy lose everything to the new regime -the workers and lowerclasses often simply change from serving one master to serving a new master. So the Military and police are a greater protection for the wealthy and thus the wealthy should shoulder a greater share of the burden.

The GPA story is a red herring and bears zero relevance to the arguement on the tax  system, or Social contract between government, such as welfare, social security, medicare or medicade, and it's responsibility to all the people under it's authority, .

Conservatives who argue utilizing this analogy come off looking ignorant
