OK I'll take a shot at an answer.
Let's look at a couple of things first: 1) You're running McAfee and got infected. 2) The June 2012 issue of Consumer Reports rated McAfee 13 out of the 14 PAID security suites they tested. In fact, every free anti-virus/security program rated higher than McAfee. And not by just a little. The lowest rated free program was MS Security Essentials at 56 overall points. McAfee scored 48. CR states that any difference of more than 4 points is "statistically significant." Lesson? Why are you still using McAfee?? Really, you're spending $80 (USD)/year and you STILL need something else (paid or not)? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over. For that amount of money I don't just want bomb-proof, I want 20 megaton nuke-proof! The highest rated programs (paid and free) were both by Avira. I have been using the free version for more than a dozen years and have never been infected by anything. Yes, I've had warning bells go off and have had to delete some files to be safe, but no infections. I think the reason the free Avira AV program isn't listed here is because it does open a "nag" screen when it updates so it is not truly "NoNags". But I consider that a very small price to pay. Click the "x" and it's gone. free-av.com AVG and Avast are also highly recommended, and both are free. Both rate 6/6 duckies here.
Good luck, Kevin
