Trying to bring a new hp p6 computer up to speed (w/ win7-64bit installed).

I've tried everything I can think of to make Firefox start w/ myway.com; and Chrome w/ news.google.com as my home pages (firefox is default ) but no matter what I do. some search engine called claro, and a java controller plus a "welcome to firefox" page replaces my choice.

I have searched FAQ's of both engines and have followed the directions I found; with no success.  Next internet startup brings up the same problems again.

Anybody have a clue as to what is going on?
