Does anyone have experience with freeware office suites? I need to find "the right one" for a friend's laptop, and could use any advice.
In the past, I've tested OpenOffice, and thought it worked extremely well. But as of April 2011, the commercial development was terminated. Even though it's continued (freely) through the Apache Software Foundation, I'm wondering about future support.
I'm curious if LibreOffice might be a better alternative? From what I understand, there was a split among the staff, and most of the future improvements are going into this project by The Document Foundation (also an open source project).
Which is better, OpenOffice or LibreOffice? Guess I could install both, but I don't really want to clutter my pal's PC. I've already loaded it with so much software, he won't recognize it. :-)
Personally, I've always used Microsoft Office -- it's a work requirement. Any advice, even if it's another program, would be appreciated.
