One of the apps I always install on new PC's is "X-Mouse Button Control", which is free but not open source.

It let's you program your mouse buttons differently for different applications, and the one I always want in Firefox is the "scroll wheel press is middle click", which open links in a new tab.

If you know anyone who's handy in PERL, I've done scripts that would do what you're talking about automatically... read a list of links and open each one, grabbing whatever is defined by certain DIV tags, adding it to a text file, then opening the next page, etc.
It's something I adapted from the old "dailystrips" perl script that was made for grabbing comics from the web and archiving them.
