Think you live in a "liberal" haven? Try coming up to my neck of the woods. California's got nothing on Seattle.
My home state, Washington, is only one of two that legalized marijuana this last election. But most voters don't realize it added a bunch of DUI procedures, tax layers, and state-controlled business. And only one of three states in the nation that's actually voted for gay marriage, which is really odd because we already had civil union laws in place for the last several years. This new law really didn't change much, except to control the "thoughts" of people who don't think it's proper (and of course, to encourage lawsuits).
We've got it all. Lots of rules & regulations, because "they" know better. Traffic (spy) cameras in almost every city. And some of the highest taxes in the nation too, because we're economic patriots, you know.
And now, they're hot on gun control, trying to pass legislation that bans the sale of ALL semi-automatic weapons that use detachable magazines (pistols, rifles, shotguns). Clips that contain more than 10 rounds would be illegal. Registering (asking permission) would be necessary. AND, for existing owners, the county sheriff could come into your home once a year, without a warrant, to inspect the safety and storage of your gun.

Of course, now that the newspapers caught wind of their legislation (the home inspection part), they're crying, "Oops, that was a mistake." Yeah, sure, I believe them. Yet, it doesn't look like they made an accidental boo-boo to me:

Seattle. ...Not as weird as Portland. Not as queer as San Francisco. But crazy freaking liberal, nonetheless. I feel like we're living out a sequel to one of Orwell's novels.
I miss saying, "It's a free country!"
