GreenScreen, while running and enabled, will allow you to set up 'GreenSpots'  
on your monitor's virtual desktop. GreenSpots are areas on your desktop which  
upon placement of your mouse cursor for a defined amount of time will enable  
a power saving mode of your monitor instantly.  
 
GreenScreen is the answer to my problem with the way Windows handles the power  
management of my monitor. I found myself constantly in the power scheme settings  
either reducing the standby/off time when I planned to be away from my PC or  
increasing the time when I came back to prevent it from coming on during a lull  
in my input (reading a large document, for example).  
 
My drive to create the utility was born during the 'Blackout of 2003', which  
I'm sure has received more than enough media coverage even in the places not  
affected, if not more due to the fact that most of our media runs on electricity!  
In this trying time, people within the affected area have been told it's a priority  
during the recovery to conserve as much power as we can. This was in one small  
way, a way for those of us who can't live without our PCs to keep the monitor  
on low power as much and as conveniently as possible - which I figure, is good  
practice in any situation is it not? =)  
 
GreenScreen is FREE. I'm providing it to anybody to use as they wish (according  
to the license terms in the readme file).
